Core facilities

The technology department of the IBPS is a unique resource providing access to state-of-the-art equipment and competences for academic and industrial laboratories.

We address a wide range of bioscience needs and provide a unique set of services integrating five core areas. Mutualisation of resources and intensive funding by Ministère de l'Education nationale, de l'Enseignement supérieur et de la Recherche, CNRS, Sorbonne Université, INSERM, FRM, Region Ile-de-France, ANR and AVIESAN allowed us to invest in equipment and infrastructures (1500m2 existing lab space) over the last years.

Our Staff: The technology department is led by a management team comprising the IBPS director, Dr. M. Labouesse, two assistants, Dr. S. Bolte (technological facilities) and Dr. N. Benslimane (animal facilities) and the heads of the 5 open access facilities. The heads of the open access facilities, which are experts in their fields, manage 24 highly motivated staff members (research engineers, technicians), with strong expertise and excellent knowledge of the technology and equipment used.

Our technological core areas and competences: The main aim of the technological department is to strengthen infrastructure and methodological services, thereby promoting the research activities of the members. Altogether five core areas covering the research excellence of the institute offer their services:

These core areas comprise open access facilities and specific technologies and competences accessible through collaborations with IBPS research teams. This allows us to provide a large panel of know-how and equipment to the researcher.

Our equipment: We provide up-to-date equipment as well as outstanding tools and expertise to solve technological challenges of the institute and external research laboratories. We continue constantly to invest in state-of-the-art equipment and infrastructures. The IBPS is proactive in fundraising and current projects include:

  • a new aquatic facility available mid-2015
  • a new scanning electron microscope available in 2015
  • a new rodent facility that should be available in 2017

Our services:

1. Access & Support: we attribute a user account; offer autonomous or engineer-assisted use of equipment, data acquisition and data analysis

2. Training: we provide training units for students, academic or industrial researchers and technicians on the local, regional, national and international level

3. Collaborative projects: we advise researchers on how to address best their biological questions with our technological resources.
